Ricci in 'Anything Else' to be released December 16
Recently Released Videos and DVDs (washingtonpost.com): "'Anything Else' (R): In yet another Manhattan romantic comedy, Woody Allen tries to extend the shelf life of his screen persona by hiring Jason Biggs as his alter ego. It's a pretty banal affair, in which Biggs plays Jerry Falk, a twenty-something New Yorker with familiar Allen hallmarks. He's a gag writer. He has regular sessions with a shrink who says nothing. He's toying with writing a novel about a godless universe. And he's in a frustrating romantic relationship with a sexually repressed uptown girl (Christina Ricci). Biggs hems and haws and utters one-liners but he's not entirely convincing. Allen plays Jerry's mentor, a schoolteacher-cum-philosopher named David Dobel, who inspires and poisons Jerry's mind with advice about life and relationships. But even he seems ersatz, artificial. The title prompts this burning question: Can Woody do anything else? Contains sexual situations, sexual language and drug use. "
